Why would you get this instead of the 3 or 8 year?... It's got the creamy mouthfeel of an older rum, with some complexity (butterscotch and mint and citrus) but cleaner and more alcohol bite than the 8 year. I tried it straight, but I think it would make an excellent mojito. Or a surprisingly buttoned-down, quietly confident daiquiri.
So I would get the 3 year for shots or sweet daqs, the 8 year for complex drinks or inexpensive sipping... and this for clean, simple cocktails.
I like this as much as the three year, but do not drink as often. Worth the little extra to have it in the cabinet, but with the three year so affordable - I make it one of my go to whites. I save the six year for when I want a change.
Neat bottle too. Ship on inside of back seen thru clear "window"on the front.
This is a great mixer although a lot of the Silver Rons are but this one is sweet but not so much as to miss the light vanilla and the buttery smooth taste which adds to any cocktail.
Bought a bottle of El Dorado Deluxe Silver 6y while vacationing in Guadeloupe. Fresh and unique bottle and label design. Very dry Demerera notes to the nose and palate. Very strong burn at the end being so dry. This is a mixer rum by all counts.
