I tested original Don Papa like a year ago. I dont remember the taste of it but I remember it wasnt anything special. Ten years old version is far better but still has a lot space to grow in quality. In Czech Republic you can get a bottle of 10yo for over 150USD and I dont really think this rum is worth of that money.

Bottle: Original Don Papa had a nice bottle and 10yo is almost the same, just in different colors. Its kinda pretty, but no original idea here.

Color: semi-dark with notes of melted gold.

Smell: I can smell some spice from Don Papa yet I am not sure about which it is. I smell some raisins and vanilla. There is almost no trace of alcohol smell at all, because its killed with sweetness. You can smell caramel as well

Taste: When you put Don Papa into a glass you can see its very sweet from how the liquid moves in the glass. And yes, it is very sweet. And also very smooth. It has very light traces of alcohol, but what you can taste most is caramel, raisins and sweetness in general. Some kind of dried fruit and thats all.

Don Papa 10yo is not bad. I wouldnt refuse it if it was offered to my to drink, but definitelly not buying a bottle of my own.

This is not that much of an improvement on the normal Don Papa. If anything it seems they've just added some darker sugar and black food colouring. Again, the marketing is excellent and if you like the bottle design, go for it. Just don't expect anything other than a sugar syrup.

Rich, dark, fairly smooth. Sweet and fragrant with orange peel. Perhaps the true purists will wonder what 10 years did to it.

N- So the Don on the label got older, but the lizard on the head still remain young. Prelude with good ashy notes, darker with cocoa, as well rustier and mineral, bitter sweet, spent match stick and whiff of phenol from the wood. (18/25)

P- Sweet menthol, toothpaste, dust of pepper and herbs. More muscle with higher abv, dark coco and vanilla. The citrus from the 7YO is missing here, hence heavier and syrupy. (16/25)

F- Short-medium, boiled spices with more dryness offering a better mouth feel and make it for a better sip, though still sugary sweet and creamy. (17/25)

Balanced:- Surely not a serious and complex sipping rum, but not bad for a casual sips, would be nice with ice, by the pool, under the sun. Like the cocoa. (18/25)

Weighted Rate:- 69pt

I was really interested in trying this rum because of the wide range of ratings for it. It seems to be a love it or hate it rum. Most people that don't like it said it is too sweet, but I like sweet rums. And I really like this!

It has a lot going on. It kind of reminds me of the A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Very Rare Rum (though I slightly prefer that one).

Smells of sweet caramel, molasses, orange, spice, bubblegum, and vanilla. Taste also includes chocolate and candied fruits. It's a really nice rum to me. A thumbs up for sure!

Tastes of orange, vanilla and burnt wood but a lot of sugar.
