This is wonderful. Loads of overripe bananas and rotting fruits. Hints of bandaid and maybe phenols. This is truly superb with a lot of nuance. I feel like I could pick it apart for hours, but a half ounce pour isn't quite enough to delve deeper. Will return to this one for another tasting.

Sipped neat, and this is so neat - vegetal herby nose. But then lush licorice and molasses on the tongue. Really great and funky.

Complex and aggressive. This takes my hurricanes to the next level. Hands down my favorite black rum that Iโve tasted.

Using this black rum in cocktails really boosts the flavor and adds some of that funk.

Wonderful pot still expression. Strong caramel, toffee, and banana. A great high proof option with bold body and a wide pallet.

We're using this for our mai tais now - it's a GREAT alternative to our usual Smith+Cross Jamaican rum... it has a ton of flavor, lots going on, and a pretty decent price point.
Bought this one after seeing reviews here. Tried it on the rocks first. Very spicy and strong as previously described. Could only muster two glasses, it was tough for me to drink straight. Tried it in a dark and stormy, perfect, I recommend this way. I liken it to a spicier and stronger Goslings

My first Jamaican rum and since it... the other Jamaicans I've tried haven't felt authentically funky. I've gone through four bottles and it appears the formula changed at some point as one of my bottles with a lower batch number was quite different.
It has a well rounded Jamaican funk of over ripe fruit and notes of smoky toffee. Even a quarter ounce can change the character of a cocktail.
Appleton... Smith and Cross... they don't hold a candle to Hamilton Black.
I've come to enjoy sipping and mixing the complex flavors present. It's grown on me so much over time that I consider it indispensable at this point.

This is probably the most interesting rum I've tried to date. I don't even know how to describe the flavor. The first flavor on the palate is, of course, overwhelmingly overripe fruits (funk) but it is almost immediately subdued with a delightful mixture of oak and spices that keeps me coming back for more. Excited to try this in some funky cocktails.
