I'm a big fan of the hard-to-find Westerhall Plantation rum out of Grenada, so when I heard that Mezan had bottled one of the Westerhall casks I had to try it. This is an excellent change of pace from the heavier rums. It's light and buttery, with a finish of vanilla cream and honey. With a description like that you may expect this rum to be sweet...but it's not. It's just downright tasty, easy to guzzle straight up. Liquid sunshine.
Mezan Grenada rum was distilled in 1998 at the Westerhall distillery in Grenada. It was set up on an estate that has been family-owned since the 18th century. The rum is very light in color and less smoky and intense than rums coming from Jamaica or Guyana. It was aged in small oak barrels and was bottled by Mezan. Bottle design is decent, mild floral notes to the nose. A bit strong burn but it disappears quickly.
