Interesting nose of vernish.
Then you really get the dry and organic taste like, typical from Jamaica. A little note of olive too.

Mezan Jamaica 2000 starts off with a slightly peppery nose, and light funk (compared to some others). There's a trace of spearmint. The flavor is neither dry not sweet (though in rum terms and for many here perhaps it's squarely "dry"). There's a good amount of oak, with subtle menthol on the finish. I really, really, enjoy this rum.

Yes, I do think it's a shame that is was bottled at 40% abv, but not a huge one. I think 45% would have been just fine, and even at 80 proof it's still an excellent rum—one I wouldn't mind adding to my REAL shelf :).

8+; a little stronger, and easily a 9!

Delizioso, per niente legnoso con profumi di frutta fresca. Il migliore!

Of the carious Jamaican's this to me is by far the best. And as per my usual Mezan Jamaica notes, I feel it important that they differentiate where the rum comes from. This is a Long Pond.

The nose is fuller and more sophisticated than their other Jamaicans. There are not obvious dominating hints of banana, but a sophisticated mix of banana, oak and spices. There is a smokeyness to the palate that adds to the dry, rich, spicy fruit that leaves something different. A nice touch of alcohol leads to a good length, which again could be even better if bottled at 42-43%.

Well worth trying.

I was hesitant to buy this rum at $55 but the review from Inu A Kena convinced me to do so. I purchased this along with the Brugal 1888. A perfect pairing to display the wide variety of rum. Where the Brugal 1888 is refined the Mezan Jam is wild. If rum was James Bonds drink he would surely prefer the 1888.
So whats so sad about this rum? It's a vintage and therefore limited in supply, hopefully subsequent batches continue with what I hope becomes a trend of excellence.

Just how funky can you go? There is plenty of dunder and esters going on but not even close to the funkiest funk of Smith and Cross. But I'd say if your of discernible palate and prefer sipping rums neat rather than mixing than this is a perfect example of Jamaican Wedderburn rum.

There is a lot to get into on the nose and tongue and the kicker is it's unadulterated. No fancy smoke and mirrors playing tricks on you leaving you to wonder just how much of this or that was added.

At the conclusion of the Inu A Kena review Josh laments of the pedestrian ABV. I agree. As good as this offering is I can't help but wonder what it would or could be if the heat were turned up a notch. Non the less I would without question buy this again and look forward to other Mezan offerings.

This is a fairly decent rum that reminds me of the Clement Homere. In fact, I slightly prefer this to the Homere, and this is a MUCH better value at only half the price.

Dry agricole flavor (though there is no mention of agricole on the bottle), with the smell and taste of spice, sugarcane, honey, toffee, and almonds. A really nice rum, though it's a bit on the dry side for my liking.

Sprittet duft.
Noget skarp smag.
God eftersmag.
