I was curious what this brand could offer as they claim : "untouched rum". Well, considering the generally pale colors of their rums and absence of suspicious fake-sugar-sweetness it seems to be honnest.
It offers good complexity and flavours (not sure how to describe them but I found some unusual aromas - I would say fruity ?). Well balanced and quite different from what I tasted so far. All in all I found it very pleasant and I will certainly try some other Mezan bottles.
....compared to the 1995, the disappointment with this knocks it down one. Bottled at 42.2% (as opposed 40% for the 1995) it is just not as smooth, easy or refined as the 1995. That extra 2.2% of alcohol is presumably the culprit. Still lovely rich fruit on the nose and palate, accompanied by great use of oak, but it's just a bit too firey.
Edit - on reflection, this is a very good rum. Not as oaky or soft as the 1995, but not fiery as mentioned above. At the moment (and it changes frequently :) ) this is one of my favourites. Will be buying another bottle in the very near future.

Smells of peaches and apricots, giving way to oak aged notes.
"The beautifully balanced yet complex nose reels you in and the sipping experience that follows is equally pleasant. This rum has a wonderful honeyed sweetness to it."

Pleasipped 8 out of 10
To get a Mezan which finally hits the spot.
A little extra punch to this one. A complex and nicely made Latin style sipper great just on its own
