Flor de Caña Volcanic Bourbon Cask

Nice tasting run, nothing out of the ordinary to make me remember it above others, apart from the volcano aging claim and a nice bottle. Quite happy to have another glass

A nice rum, nothing spectacular, not sure what the smooth taste that the ‘volcanic aging’ claims to add. But there are far better FdC rums. Not much info about in this, no age details either and only seems to be sold in airports

When brand first started riding the "eco" train, I was left with mixed feelings where this is going. Then my mixed feelings grew towards annoyance and lately, began borderlining on disgust. There is but one thing about brands going "eco". Their products deteriorate in the process. No exceptions. Sometimes it's the presentation, sometimes it's the product, usually both.

What we have here is gift pack for travelers. Yes, you got that right. Stuff you grab at the airport, so you don't get home empty handed. Airport. Triple the packaging. Carbon neutrality. Gluten free. Fair trade. Ain't that just fucking hilarious. To its credit, packaging makes it stand out. Thick, heavy, thoughtfully designed. Just like in the good old times, when things were properly made. And probably half the cost should be contributed to that. Getting kind of sarcastic here.

For what's inside is unimpressive. It carries some resemblance to other brand products, but falls short. Starting with something quite important. There are no details whatsoever as to what kind of blend is inside the bottle. Even on their own site. I mean, they didn't care enough to feature the product there or provide brief description, but do care enough to be vocal about their carbon neutrality at any given chance. Based on my experience with it, I'd assume what's inside is as young as 5 years and as old as 12 at most. And maybe, just maybe a dash of 18 year old. Something in those lines.

Upon opening, weak sweet scent comes out of the bottle. With that in mind, first sip is no surprise. Sweet, smooth cane syrup with just slight bite and short afterburn. As I said, it bears resemblance to other brand products and tasting profile is pretty familiar. In the end, it is fine, but unremarkable experience. As far as taste is regarded, I'd give it a 6, but since I'm really pissed by that in-your-face eco shit of theirs, I'd drop one. Better grab the 7-year old instead, which I labeled "the best all-rounder". It's much more friendly on the budget as well, as you don't have to pay for all that totally un-eco packaging. /sarcastic mode off

They sell it in Airport Shops. Did not find much information about this rum.
Nose: nice hints of vanilla, coco, citusfruit
Palate: After a few more glasses from this bottle, I have to downgrade my rating to 6: Compared to other rums rated 7, this one is sharper and less balanced. Pretty dry. I miss body and volume. A bit thin and maybe a little bit less spicy than the 15-Year. The 18-YO would also be the better choice from this brand.
