This rum is really something new from the Arehucas distillery in the Canary Islands. A 19yo unsweetened cask strength from 2002, aged in just two American white oak barrels and bottled in 600 numbered bottles.
Unfortunately for all of you that ain’t from Sweden is 90% of the bottles allocated to Sweden. But after what I understood from the Swedish importer, Daniel di Zasso at Herida Brands, has it received a lot of attention, so it will most likely be followed up with future releases more widely spread.
The nose is very aromatic. It’s spicy, woody and fruity with some sweetness and hints of vanilla.
At the palate it’s well balanced and the aromas is coming back as tastes together with tastes of apricot, raisin, orange, cinnamon and some nuttiness.
The finish is very long.
Overall a fantastic Spanish rum that’s turning things upside down about characteristics around Spanish styled rum.
