Picked up a bottle for Jamaican Mules - wanted something better than just Capt Morgan. Wow what a surprise! For $13 on sale it's competing with my $23 bottle of Capt Morgan private stock and holding its own. Very smooth and nicely spiced for mixed drinks.
For the most part, it's quite good, although I experienced a slightly synthetic aftertaste when tried in the Rum and Coke. Still, holds up well in comparison to other rums around it's price point and has the extra few alcohol points to tip the scales in it's favour.
What a way to arrive at my 400th review within the last 40 months. A lowly 5 to never buy again! And a spiced rum from a "Caribbean island" in Maine of all places. Somehow, it slowly rose above all of those ranked below it to attain my honest rating of a 5, but later lowered to a 4..
I recently started trying rums and have tried a few different ones now. At the price I was sure it would be horrible tasting swill but was surprised by how good it actually was. Easily a straight sipper. Though I have found it goes great with sprite or ginger ale for a less potent drink. So far the best spiced rum I have tried.
Good stuff, a bit too strong on the sweetness and vanilla flavor for my liking but otherwise really nice tasting actually. Some nice spice flavor and just the right amount of burn. For 13 dollars and 47 percent alcohol it blows competitors out of the water. Tastes almost as good as Sailors or Kraken which are more expensive (17 and 20 respectively). Much better than Captain Morgan. Definitely on the dark side but not black like Kraken. Mixes well. Its not perfect top shelf rum or anything but for any broke college student or anyone looking for spiced rum/alcohol in general on a budget its the gold standard. Highly recommend to pick up a bottle.
This rum tastes better than the price tag would suggest. With the over-proof bite, the spices don't seem to pop as much as others. So, I guess I'd call this a subtly spiced rum. For the price, it's fantastic. I'd say this is a 7 on flavor, but a solid 10 on value. As always, I drink my rum over ice with a healthy splash of Coke.
I was always a drinker of Captain Morgan spiced rum. They had Calico Jack on sale for $6.99 for a 750 Ml bottle, so I thought I'd give it a try. I had Calico Jack (perhaps another form, not the spiced rum, and hated it.)
Anyway, I opened the bottle and added the diet Coke, I always mix with my rum. Wow! It tasted much better than the captain Morgan I'd been drinking for the last 20 years. And not even on sale it's roughly half the price. For whatever reason, I believe the Calico Jack 94 spiced rum has a better taste than the regular spiced rum. I don't often drink, but I no longer want any other spiced rum!
Better than Bacardi 101,its still a very cheap yet strong tasting rum.

Obviously an overproofed yet favorably priced rum. Ordered it at a bar because I liked the bottle, bought a bottle because I liked the taste. Great for a strong mixed drink. I could only find it in a big bottle, bolder than the Captain and cheaper than Jerry and thereโs plenty to go around. So share it with all of your pirate friends.
