Kraken Black Cherry And Madagascan Vanilla

Works well in a fruit daiquiri but really this is sugar juice masquerading as rum.

When I first tried this new Kraken Rum neat, it’s fair to say that I was less than impressed. That’s because the cherry in smell and taste is tepid at best, and the Madagascan vanilla is AWOL, both on the palate and in the after taste. Which means in simple terms, drank neat this rum is dreadfully lacklustre. However, turn this into a long drink with the aid of full fat Coca-Cola and OH MY DAYS, what a complete and utter transformation! The coke not only makes the vanilla pop, but it accentuates the cherry. Now what you get with this rum, is delicious standout notes of cherry, quickly followed by the sweet and heavenly taste from the vanilla, with absolutely zero alcohol burn. All that now means, that this rum has gone from being insipid to drink neat, to a rum that’s so incredibly lush, you are basically drinking alcoholic Cherry Coke, with a side serving of vanilla in the after taste thrown in for good measure.

The best cherry rum I have tried thus far, the Old J cherry is just syrup in comparison. Kraken adds a nice hint of extra vanilla too. Not really too complex, just a great tasting mixing rum that is dangerously easy to drink.
