I was not even going to submit this review, but I feel that it is my civic duty to inform all of my fellow reviewers on this site for this colossal waste of money for a rum.

I drove to one of my favorite liquor stores a few days ago to pick up some old favorites. I also saw this $95 bottle from Chairman's in a gift box. One can see the label, but not the fine print. Since I am a long time fan of this distillery in St Lucia, I foolishly bought it.

I read the fine print when I got it home. It is bottled at cask strength at 1.2% less than 60% ABV. No one drinks cask strength liquors neat unless they are a glutton for punishment. I added 1 part of spring water to 2 parts of this new rum to bring the ABV down to about 40%. Then I let it breathe in the snifter for about 30 minutes. The ethanol vapors really burned my nose, even at about 40% ABV. I then swirled it around a lot in the snifter and gave it some more time. It still had quite a burn on my tongue with a very weird taste that I could not pinpoint. My initial rating was a low 7, which rapidly moved down to a low 6. What was I going to do with this expensive crap? My answer was what most would consider as unthinkable.

However, this is where it's problems revealed themselves. I mixed 2 ounces of this rum to 7 ounces of my favorite cola, and then added lots of ice. This is where the heavy oak flavors revealed themselves as being the culprit. I am no fan of many of the Foursquare ECS rums with heavy bourbon notes, but those are stellar compared to this crap. It has now tried very hard to earn my rating of 5 and will never be bought again, even if I find another one of this very bitter bottle.

More of the fine print on the gift box states that this limited edition rum is highly sought after. Well, maybe for collectors only. For those who buy rums to sell at auction, this rum may be your ticket to profit. Fools and their money will soon part, just as this fool did. Just don't show the buyer this review or open your bottle. This rum was a mistake that should have never gone to market.

After note a few days later: To avoid having to pour this crap down the toilet, I mixed one part of this rum with two parts of premium coconut water and then shoved the bottle of this mixture into my fridge. After only about 1-2 hours in my fridge, solids congealed as I have never seen happen before with coconut water. All I could figure was that solids from the oak barrels had congealed when encountered with cold coconut water. This has never happened to me before, since coconut water usually saves the very worst of rums that I have tried. This tells me that there is some kind of untold crap hiding within this "rum". The clouds never lie and I rest my case. As my headline states, "Buyer Beware!". And the rest of the bottle did wind up going down the toilet.
