This Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection was bottled for The Rum Exchange. It was made in 1999 in the John Dore pot style and was allowed to store in ex-bourbon casks for 21 years. It was then bottled at 67.1% cask strength with no additives or filtration as a single cask.

The nose suggests that it is a very old rum from St. Lusia. The smoke and roasted aromas are even more intense and have a fermented overtone, plus mocha, caramelized red fruit and plenty of cask influence. The whole leaves a heavy impression. On the palate, the alcohol comes with a lot of warmth and shows itself without being unpleasant. Lots of smoke and roasted aromas here too. The barrel influence is huge. With spicy pepper, mocha, burnt sugar, fermented fruit, dark chocolate and some medicine. The whole thing is heavy, oily and complex. The rum is dark and becomes drier towards the end, with lots of wood, bitter substances, roasted aromas and dark chocolate. The rum is very astringent and becomes drier and has a slightly musty finish.

What can I say. I like old rums and I like it when you can tell that the rum is old. Therefore, I enjoyed this bottling very much and am fully satisfied. Tropical storage comes through nice here. There are certainly rums from this series that draw the Chairman's character even more precisely and also impress with dirtier notes. What really convinced me here was the clearly recognizable age. The rum is dark, heavy and concentrated. I really like that. If you don't want so much cask influence, you should perhaps try the slightly younger, very very tasty rums from the Master's Selection series. St. Lucia is just awesome.

Was soll ich sagen.
