Don Papa Gayuma

Philippines | Dark | 40.0% ABV

Don Papa Gayuma is a premium aged rum made from high-quality sugarcane grown in the fertile volcanic soils of the Philippine islands. This dark amber spirit is aged for at least seven years in American oak barrels, resulting in a smooth, rich and complex taste profile. It exhibits a fruity and spicy aroma with notes of vanilla, honey, cinnamon and tropical fruits, while the palate offers a pleasant balance of sweetness and oakiness, rounded off with a long, warming finish. Don Papa Gayuma is a versatile rum that can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, as well as mixed in classic cocktails or used in culinary recipes.

It’s got that signature Don Papa vanilla nose, but the complex tastes and smokeyness hits me in the right way. You can immediately understand the casks finishes they applied. I love this one a lot so far and recommend getting a bottle for those cold winter evenings by a good log fire.

From the site itself:
Don Papa Gayuma - meaning ‘love potion’ - is a super premium rum that pays homage to the unique rituals performed by the shamans of Mt. Kanlaon and Isla del Fuego (‘the Island of Fire’). It is aged in ex-bourbon American oak casks for three years, before going through a double barrel finish: 6 months in high toast ex-Rioja barrels followed by 3 months in rich, warming and smoky toasted oak casks, which first held Scotch whisky from the legendary isle of Islay.
