This rum comes from the since year 2000 closed Uitvlugt Distillery and the Port Mourant Double Wooden Pot Still which today is moved to the Diamond Distillery, the only distillery in Guyana nowadays.
It was distilled in 1991 and was first tropical aged for 10 years in an former bourbon barrel whereafter it was continentally aged for 19 years in an ex- French oak Cask. Finally it was bottled in 2022 in 277 bottles at 68,7%.
The aromas is round, fruity and spicy with hints of vanilla and cherry.
In mouth and at palate it’s still round, fruity and spicy, but also woody. Besides this it’s a little bit bittersweet with hints of chocolate, vanilla, salt, tea and marzipan.
The long finish is round, woody, spicy and sweet with hints of tea.
Overall an elegant and surprisingly round rum for its high ABV.
