There are three sorts from North of 7 distillery.
1 Leatherback Spiced (blended)
2 Leatherback (blended)
3 Leatherback Special Reserve (single barrel).
Reviews of 2nd and 3rd are mixed in parallel thread, hereafter I'm adding 3rd to distinguish between them.
Produced from local backstrap molasses. According to quick research they are rich in antioxidants and minerals. Triple distilled. From new charred barrel.
Aroma is tricky straight from the bottle (: poor party animals on whom it was tested :), getting ok after a some breath.
2 obvious layers on palate: pure ethanol (57° does little burn) and congeners.
Leather, tobacco, nuts, something woody deliciously smocked, few fruits notes. Like strong young Jamaican, but not funky. Note of spiceness.
Absolutely natural, no hint of sugar. Not dry, much more oily that any of 5+yo.
The aftertaste is 100% the same as palate and it stays virtually forever.
Did not work in Cuba Libre - maybe I've poured too much of it.
If you're in Ontario you have to try it.
