I don’t believe I’ve had any rum from Mauritius so I was really looking forward to trying this since I’m a big fan of Berry Bros and Rudd offerings. This one did not disappoint!
This one was distilled in north oak bourbon and sherry cask but I think the bourbon oak comes through the most.
Really great and enjoyed it!
Upon opening the bottle, I thought someone had made a mistake and I was getting jet fuel instead of rum. It smelled disgusting. After a while, however, the aroma completely changed: it mellowed and took on exciting tones. A little fruity and had quite a strong bourbon smell, which I couldn't identify at first. On the palate, rather intense, with a long, though hardly surprising, finish. Ultimately, a very interesting rum, although a little too alcoholic in flavour.
Has a lovely peppery spicy bite with some soft flesh tropicak sweet fruit taste. It's a very hot sip but not unpleasant. Leaves a beautiful tingle on the lips and a long lingering dried mango fruit finish. Took me a few minutes to come around to this but I ended up bumping my review by the time I finished my pour.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Lightly coloured, some oak and tropical fruit on the nose, grassy and little hot on the palate. Lacks complexity and richness for me.
