Montebello 2014 Le Brut de Fut 8-Year

This rum, a Brut de Fût, from the Carrere Distillery in Guadeloupe is aged for 8 years in Ex-Bourbon barrels before bottled at a rather low cask strength.
On the nose it’s complex, rich and intense with woody, spicy and fruity notes and aromas of vanilla, caramel and chocolate as well as nuances of cinnamon, clove and licorice.
In mouth and at the palate it’s complex, elegant, fruity, sweet and spicy with flavors of cocoa, coffee, tobacco and honey, but also hints of wood, mocha and licorice.
The finish is long, elegant, warm, soft and round.
Overall a sophisticated rum with a great nose, that maybe has little bit too kind and soft flavors to get a really high score.

This rum comes from Guadeloupe from the Carrere distillery. Made in column style from fresh sugar cane, this Rhum Agricole was allowed to rest tropically for 8 years and was bottled with 47.9% alcohol without additives.

What immediately catches the eye is the very sweet nose. Some honey and syrup. In addition, fresh lemon zest and orange. Some hay and vegetal notes. In addition, some spice and a note that I can't quite grasp. On the palate again first the sweetness. With baking seasoning and vanilla. Herbs, hay and wood. In addition, orange peel and a hint of anise. On the finish, the spiciness remains and the rhum becomes drier with a slight sweetness.

A very sweet Agricole with classic vegetal notes but also a lot of syrup aromas. Throughout the entire process, I am also accompanied by a note that is not clearly definable, which unfortunately bothers me a bit. For the price not enough. Especially with the alternatives of Bielle or Bellevue.

Dieser Rhum kommt von Guadeloupe aus der Carrere Destillerie. Hergestellt im Column Style aus frischem Zuckerrohr durfte dieser Rhum Agricole 8 Jahre tropisch reifen und wurde mit 47,9% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe abgefüllt.

Was sofort auffällt ist die sehr süße Nase. Etwas Honig und Sirup. Dazu frische Zitronenschale und Orange. Etwas Heu und pflanzliche Noten. Dazu etwas Würze und eine Note die ich nicht recht greifen kann. Am Gaumen wieder erst die Süße. Mit Backwürze und Vanille. Kräuter, Heu und Holz. Dazu Orangenshale und ein Hauch Anis. Zum Abgang bleibt die Würze und der Rhum wird trockener mit einer leichten Süße.

Ein sehr süßer Agricole mit klassischen pflanzlichen Noten aber auch viel Sirup Aromen. Den gesamten Verlauf begleitet mich auch eine nicht klar definierbare Note die mich leider etwas stört. Für den Preis kommt da zu wenig. Vor allem bei den Alternativen von Bielle oder Bellevue.
