What a gem of a find, the best transcontinental out there, slight esther banana funk on the nose, full bodied taste that covers the entire tongue,
yummy peppery burn finish. Like a less polished Hampden the younger

Really enjoyed the funky notes on this one. Wish this was sold near me because it would be in my home bar.

Cute bottling and packaging, the golden circle kind of shines in the dark. They claim this to be dry rum with hint of fruits and full-spice but I don't find it super dry. Quite a heavy rum with full body, feels solid made. Aged 4 yrs in tropical cond. and 1 year in Europe but this unbalanced ratio doesn't quite fit to the final taste, if you ask me.
Prevailing character: wood, spice, smoke with some fruits. Overall good but nothing really new for advanced drinkers. For Jamaican proportions the rum is somewhat more woody and spicy (especially in finish) and little heavy more than typially fruity, funky, rotten, estery and semi-sweet (WP/Hampden benchmark used). But there are still qualities and the rum still may be annyoing for rookie drinkers. Advanced drinkers will probably miss someting really recognizable in the nose or palate, kinda like Hampden Overproof has. (I am not that experienced but I can say there is a load of relatively similar, yet good quality rums from Jamaica and surrounding islands from TCRL, Boutique Company, Rum Nation and others.)
I would say typical good independent bottler work visiting Jamaica, offering serious ABV along with some funkiness but the nose is overall less rotten, less fruity, less "loco" than some of local classics, lets say Hampden, which are still better (and more character) rums for me. The nose is pungent and reflects high ABV, and to me is definitely pleasing. After a couple of more sniffs and sips the fruity and alcohol tones became somewhat more apparent in the nose.
While there is nothing wrong with this rum in the nose and taste, I still choose Hampden (or Mhoba) as more unique rum-journey for money paid.
