Bought from Amazon for GBP23.50 but now on at GBP42.95. Even with our high taxes, GBP42.95 is far too expensive
A blend from Jamaica, Guyana, Dominican Republic and Nicaragua bottled at 40%.
Official tasting note: Full flavoured, medium bodied. Look for crispness, dark brown sugar and vanilla.
The tasting note is fairly ok, but omits the nose. Not the esters there that you might find from a Jamaican rum, which is quite disappointing. The nose doesn't really give that much and is quite spirity. Not a huge amount of oak. What I do like is the ctispness of the spirit, rather than these cloying sweet bombs. A bit short on the finish.
And this here is the big problem. It seems yet another brand that has come to the party, riding on the coat tails of rum's popularity. What does it offer? Nothing new. Nothing to get you saying "wow". Just another blend, and not a particularly good one. Putting it in a a fancy bottle (I have to commend them on the packaging) doesn't a rum make.
Drinking neat, like I always do unless having a Dark 'n Stormy, but this might be better as a mixer, though not at the GBP42 price.
The thing I really don't like about it, is the name. Reserve Blend is fine, but using 12 would suggest it was 12 years old, and it really tastes a lot younger than that. Rum needs to get its house in order and get labelling properly.
