The Chamarel distillery is located in the fertile hills of the south-west of Mauritius at an altitude of 200 metres above sea level. It is one of the few local producers who control the entire production process, from the cultivation of the sugar cane, to distillation and barrel ageing. Distillation has a long tradition on the island, dating back to the 16th century.

The distillery uses both continuous and pot stills, and after distillation the rum is stored for six months in stainless steel tanks, where it acquires its typical rounded, full-bodied flavour. Only then is the rum placed in American and French oak barrels that previously contained bourbon or cognac.

This single cask was distilled in 2013 and aged for 8 years in a used bourbon cask. It was bottled at cask strength in 2022. One cask was bottled at 56.3%, the other at 56.5%.
