This rum Artesanal bottling comes from Trinidad from the closed Ten Cane distillery. The rum made from cane juice was distilled in the pot style in 2008 and was allowed to rest for 14 years. At a cask strength of 58.2%, the rum was bottled without additives or filtration as a single cask in 257 bottles of 50cl each.

The rum is initially somewhat closed on the nose. What is immediately noticeable is a nice mixture of fruit and spice. Lots of red fruit and vanilla, marzipan, some menthol and solvents are present. Over time, a nice cherry note is added. The barrel is noticeable too. The alcohol is more present on the palate than necessary. The rum fights with a slightly too dominant sharpness. There is a lot of spice again, dried red fruits, roasted vanilla, some marzipan, dark chocolate, and oak influence. The whole thing is beautifully full-bodied and complex. The finish is woody with clear bitter notes. Spicy and dark chocolate lingers and the rum is slightly astringent.

The Ten Cane is definitely one of the better ones from this closed distillery. I've tried a few and I'm very pleasantly surprised here, especially since the red fruits are clearly visible. Overall, I think that the alcohol could be better integrated here. After all a nice sipper.
