I really do not mind a sweet rum but Bolivar pushed my limits. Very little harshness and hard to believe it is 40% ABV. Almost immediately reminded me of Pyrat XO just much less of a citrus taste. Aftertaste was long and completely dominated by a syrupy sweetness. Tastes a lot more like a liquor than an actual rum. Also hard to believe that it was aged 8 years. And if it was then at least 7 of those 8 years this stuff was probably sitting in old high fructose corn syrup barrels. This may be fine as a mixer but that is all. I do like the black bottle and retro, kind of postage stamp label. Literally going to brush my teeth now because my dental plan sucks and I can feel this sugar bomb blowing holes into my teeth.

I picked this up because it was a rum I hadn't heard of and I had a coupon. I was hoping it would be a decent alternative to Dipimatico, and it is. It is similar to the Diplimatico Reserva but maybe even sweeter. It definitely seems to have more sugar than the Diplimatico Seleccion de Familia. At less than $30 for a bottle, it is a cost effective option instead of Diplimatico Reserva.

It has a dark bottle with a similar shape and size to Diplimatico. It is a decent sipper if you like sweet rums. I generally prefer Bajan rums with no sugars added, but I will keep a bottle of this for when I am in the mood for a dessert rum.

This is a tasty concoction 40% alcohol 8 year rum with a vague note rum with natural flavors. So is it an. Aged Dominican rum or a spiced rum?? The lines are getting blurred in many country’s. This is very easy to drink though a bit sweet with some distinct flavors coming out. Not a rum for purists, but worthy of consumption. Lots of high ratings, I try to give merit where merit is due but don’t think I will purchase agin, but it will be consumed not poured down the drain.

As good as other more popular Venezuelan rum at half the price. This is sweet rum but not artificially. Nice color. Nose of vanilla and almond. This has some body. Full, not thin, on the pallet. Smooth and flavorful with wood, nutmeg and cocoa notes. Smallish bite and very good finish. You can definitely sip this but it is a superior dark rum mixer. Good stuff!
