Strong with lots of flavor. This is the rum I pull out when my whiskey drinking friends come around.
I was a little nervous with the high proof, and there is indeed quite a bit of burn. After the first sip, however, you acclimate and the flavors come out… a bit of sweetness and lots of complexity. I am slowly working my way through the bottle since I believe these are limited production. This is the first ECS (Exceptional Cask Selection) product I have tried from Four Square.
Got to the section on Foursquare in Modern Carribean Rum, so I had to open a new to me Foursquare. Bit hard to get anything on the nose for me due to the ABV. The brown sugar gives way to some complex fruit on the palate. Definitely hot but a bit more on the front end. A bit of oak char is present too. Outstanding
I have now tried a few Foursquare's and, for me, they are all similar. That should not be taken as an insult or negative. In fact, the opposite. The well-aged, bourbon-matured Foursquare's all boast big flavors of caramel, vanilla, molasses and a little allspice and cinnamon.
This is rum for the bourbon drinker. 12 years old (aged in the tropics) and 120 proof. Considering the specs and the high quality, $90-$100 is reasonable.
I wish I could score this 8.5. It is better than an 8, but I can't make it a 9, since it doesn't bring any crazy complexity to the table like Hampden, the Clairins, or Rivers.
Great balance between smooth flavor and a sexy heat. Pink peppercorn and cinnamon dominate, while grassy tones bring up the rear. Nice, but not my top pick
Another great ecs release.
The 2009 was a bit better then this one for me but still a great release!
I Hope to be able to score some more of those esc ‘s

Excelptional Cask Mark XXI (červenec 2022)
Aroma: Určitě méně ostré než 2008 - vanilka, kokos, zkvašené ovoce, závan třtiny, opálené dřevo.
Chuť: Nasládlá - vanilka, štiplavé dřevo, po chvíli velmi pálivé dřevo. Snad jsem cítil i trochu techničnosti.
Dozvuk: Vanilka, šťavnatost a spousta hořknoucího dřeva. Možná se ozývá i spálený karamel. Delší.
Sladkost:0/3
Ochutnán vzorek
Další výborná ročníkovka od FQ, kde mile překvapil závan techničnosti v chuti. Hodnotím stejně jako předchozí ročníky.

9,5-Nose:The aroma delivers notes of vanilla, pineapple, rock fruit, sweet mango, funkiness and ripe bananas front and center. At the midpoint, I found anise, black cherry, and orange zest. As these notes fade, a light note of acetone drifts in along with black pepper and graphite mineral notes.
9-Palate:Like the aroma, the caramelized vanilla leads the way with a warm, dry entry. Fruit and spice notes hit the palate fast, and it takes a little while to decipher everything coming at the palate. I found flavor notes of peach, banana flambe, plums, and grilled pineapple. Spice notes arrive mid-palate, releasing black pepper, cloves, anise, cinnamon, baking spices, and a strong dose of alcohol.
9,1-Finish: As the flavors fade, the pepper lingers a bit, and the oak tannins really come out to play in a long, warm end.
