This special bottling from Distillery Saint James is to be released in four parts. The first release is a Rhum Agricole from 2001, which was made in the Creole Column Style and was allowed to mature tropically on the island of Martinique for 20 years. It was then bottled at cask strength of 55.2% alcohol as a single cask in 3500 bottles.

This Rhum has been tropically stored for 20 years. What does the nose expect? Intense and heavy barrel notes. Roasted aromas and old wood, dried fruits, lots of spice with vanilla and nuts. But also caramel and floral notes. grass and orange peel. It's all heavy, powerful and complex. The nose clearly shows that this Agricole has been stored for a long time. This impression is repeated immediately on the palate. Instead of fresh citrus grass, there are strong barrel notes with wood, roasted aromas, spice and dried fruits. There are clear Tannins to taste and old leather. In between then grass, which seems a bit hay. The Agricole is there, but is heavily besieged from the barrel. The Rhum has a great full body. The finish will be woodier and more bitter. Leather and Agricole notes remain and also some bourbon. The whole thing is astringent, nice and dry. You will look in vain for sweets here.

What can I say. 20 years of tropical storage have shaped this Agricole, but not destroyed it. On the contrary, the Agricole is still intact, but has clearly changed its character. Anyone who loves old stored rums will be very happy here. I am very enthusiastic and I like the Les Ephemeres N°1 very much. The only downside is that it was impossible for me to get a bottle at the original price of 115 euros. This price is absolute madness and I understand the run on this bottling, since I would have paid easily more after the tasting. Too bad.

Edit: I got a bottle for a fair price. Lucky me!!!

Was erwartet die Nase? Dazwischen dann Gras, was etwas heuig anmutet. Süße sucht man hier vergebens.

Was soll ich sagen.

Chuť: Lehounce štípavá, dřevitá a bylinková.
Dozvuk: Pryskiřice a spousta hořknoucího dřeva s tříslovinami. Dlouhý a velmi hořký.
Sladkost: 0/3
Oba 7-/10.
