Naturally sweet (that means no added sugar), smooth, and full of oak and bourbon overtones. This is one of Foursquare's finest. It's 180 degrees away from all the sugared rums that are so popular around here. It's really good...and it's already so smooth that you don't need to add ice or water. Best enjoyed neat.

I love the aroma in the bottle. Has a slight caramel aroma. Nice. Tasting it reveals a smoothness with some spiciness. Also oak flavor (not surprising for a rum aged 12 years). Not overly sweet although there is a bit of it noticeable right before the warmth of the rum takes over. As it fades the caramel and vanilla becomes more apparent. Excellent sipping rum.
Whisky like nose from the wood and the bourbon barrels, with that bourbony sweetness.
Mature sugars on initial taste and some plaintain.
Can taste the age, dramatically more than the RL Seales 10yr which I tasted this alongside (maybe because it's aged in bourbon barrels?).
Almost get splinters from the finish, not very sweet at all. Dry.
Guava taste at the end.
Not loads of stuff happening in it but would strongly recommend anyone who like rum to try it.
This is a great example of a Bajan rum that is well aged. It does not have anything but a bourbon cask influence of many years. The main interesting theme here is the tobacco and bourbon cask flavor. All natural really a nice rum to add into a sipping rotation when you are going to other cask finishes or aging.
Another great bottle from the island of real rum. This one get straight to the point and is a little more heavily bodied then you usual Barbadian. My nose fills with notes of leather, oak, coconut and pepper. In the mouth I pick up a dark character with notes of oak, leather, tobacco, orange-peel and spices. Despite the manly character, it's a pleasingly refined rum that's well executed. The taste and color feels influenced by the barrel, but it never goes overboard. Thumbs up.
Reminds me eldorado 12, bit sweeter than Bacardi 8.
This nice Rum in one of the biggest positive surprise for me. Really smooth sipper with long aftertaste, not to sweet and not to oaky, perfect balanced. This is among my new fovourites from now. Highly recommended!
Dates and apricots in the nose. A bit smokey on the tongue, with dates again and licorice. So far, so well. The finishing starts in the same direction, when all of a sudden the burnign of alcool takes over. What a pity! Still: On the better side of rum.
Mature tropical fruits, demerara sugar, oak and baking spices
"The Real McCoy 12-Year rum review by a Mountain of Crushed Ice"
Has some very Bourbon like sweet/sour like notes.
"It is rich, intense and quite spicy. Very oaky yet not overly dry."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

An unpolished real rum with a hint of sweetness

The Real McCoy 12-Year Rum tastes younger than other 12 year old rums. I would describe it as unpolished. Yet it has a hint of sweetness to it that reminds me of younger Demerara rums.
