Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
The Duppy Share Caribbean rum is produced using a combination of 3-year Jamaican and 5-year Barbados rums. Both are aged in bourbon barrels and brought to London for bottling.
The name 'Duppy Share' comes from Caribbean folklore where the dark spirit 'duppies' take their share of rum from distilleries, similar to the traditional term 'angel’s share' when rum is lost due to evaporation during the aging process.
It's not great, certainly wouldn't recommend it straight and almost always overpriced due to popularity that seems to be gained with a big marketing budget rather than being a good product.
If I'm honest I was drawn to the bottle, but this has turned out to be very pleasent. Smooth enough to drink on it own but enough flavour (just) to have with a mixer (their recommendation is bitter lemon which isn't my usual choice but works well).
Young rums from Barbados and Jamaica have been blended to make this pretty fair juice. It presents with both an initial soft sweetness and a fiery follow-through. Fruit and spice abound. Although it's not a top-tier rum, it's perfectly adequate as a mid-level sipper and mixer.
Colour- caramel with light honey flashes
Taste- slightly plastic taste at first and then buttery caramel
Uses- a ok mixer
It's not undrinkable but it just misses something if you want to make a nice cocktail it's fine, if a friend comes round and says oh runs ok but I always have it with coke then give it them, and they will be happy but I wouldn't choose to have it straight.
Got a 5cl sample of this rum from RR Tasting Club.
The name Duppy Share comes from the Duppies which is a ghost taking the best part of rum around the Caribbean islands and is the same thing as Angels Share that is the “phenomenon” originally from Scotland.
It’s a blend of 3yo pot still rum from the Worthy Park Distillery and 5yo column still rum from the Foursquare Distillery.
The aroma is fruity woody and spicy.
In mouth and palate about the same with some vanilla.
The finish is medium long and tastes about the same and I recognize ginger and lime.
Overall a recommendable rum especially when taking the price into account.
Tento rum som kúpil v rámci akcie, s možnosťou vyhrať kvalitnejší XO, ktorý som krátko predtým ochutnal a aj keď bol dosť sladký, čímsi ma zaujal. V prípade hodnoteného Caribbean Aged ide o blend pomerne krátko stareného jamajského a barbadoského rumu, fľašou príliš nezaujme. Farba je dosť svetlá, vôňa dáva tušiť dochucovanie, okrem tropického ovocia presakuje škorica a iné korenia, pri silnejšom nádychu zaštípe alkohol. Chuť je nasládla, s dominanciou vanilky a karamelu, znova s ostrejšou dochuťou liehu. Záver fádny a nahorklý. Ničím výnimočný druh, ďalšiu fľašu rozhodne kupovať nebudem, tento drink hádžem do jedného vreca s Havana Club 7Y a Espero Reserva Exclusiva, teda k rumom skôr vhodnejším do mixu s colou. Na gurmánske popíjanie určite nevhodný, subjektívny rating silnejších 5.
"This rum is the very epitomy of easy drinking. It slips down beautifully. ."
