Transcontinental Rum Line 2014 Australia 7-Year

This took a few days to open up, but smelling it, I get lychees and a touch of aromatic volatiles, with a deeper layer of something darker and richer.
Taste is predominantly lychee with a modest amount of pot still funky weirdness overlaying a midest burn and the cognac casks this was finished in.
Overall, it's quite different from anything else I've tried, except armagnac and Barbancourt - those French oak casks are very distinctive.
A bit fiery but very manageably so, it's growing on me, and for £46, it's decent value and enjoyably different.
Not sure if it's typically Australian, but it definitely makes me want to try other rums from Beenliegh

Fruity, oaky, delicious funk! I am not a big fan of funky rums but this one I can drink.

Faint citrus nose, a bit rancid on the taste like spoiled fruit but not in a yummy hampden banana funk way, burns more than expected even though it’s a 48%abv. It’s not sweet at all, it’s a 6 as is but a 6.5 if you let it breathe a bit.

pot stilled and aged 5 years ex-bourbon in Australia. could pick up the toasted oak on the nose and had a nice hints of apple and pear on the palate. Another taster mentioned bubble gum and you could definitely taste that after the suggestion. Favorite TCL we tasted that night.
