I'm not a fan of brugal at all but the 1888 is much smoother expression of the distinctive dry brugal flavour. If you enjoy other brugal runs at all I'm sure you'd love this.

you would think the top tier product of any rum brand's portfolio would offer so much... but time and again i've reminded myself not to have any expectations of the liquid until after tasting it.

as packaging itself is very clean and premium, you would expect some quality anyhow.

it's not bad nor is it great. but it's good and won't easily disappoint yourself or your guests... but pricing can be a sensitive issue.

This was best at Top of the Market in San Diego. A little rough - a lime smoothed it out some.

Had this during dinner, served neat. Nothing too great to write about, but nothing horrible. Not sweet. But not overly burning at the end. Good for the price, but nothing I would keep available at home.

This 100 anniversary edition is good, and not as dry as most of their range.

Not that much sweetened. Nice earthly scent but the taste... Its similar to that anti-mosquito plug-in repelents - perfumy taste that hides a chemical disaster. Leave this one to teenagers and their experiments. For a similar price buy yourself Mount Gay XO. Or Doorlys etc. In short proper rums, that taste like rums. After tasting this next to MG XO, I was really close to throwing up.

Deep spice, OAK, touch of wine sweetness?, tar, bitterness

Esters? Nope, very much Spanish.

It has a mustiness similar other Brugal offerings ive had

The rum seems tired, lacks strength, too bitter. If not much else, deep oak is pleasant

Its not bad, its just not what I want from my rum anymore
