I was excited to try this based on both the price of the bottle and the current RumRatings score. But I really wasn't too impressed.

I like rums that smell and taste like rum. This has a very strong bourbon influence. Smells and tastes of oak, bourbon, and toffee. Maybe a hint of sherry, tobacco and cinnamon as well. A bit too dry for my liking, this rum is just average to me.

Brugal 1888 Gran Reserva Familiar
Origine : République Dominicaine
40 %
750ml
Nez : Vanille, caramel, cannelle
Bouche : Vanille, caramel, bois brûlé
Un goût trop simpliste pour un rhum ayant passé du temps en fût de bourbon et xérès. Les notes de xérès sont presque inexistantes. Pas mauvais mais décevant.

This is definitely the best of the Brugal rums I have had but that said it doesn't hold up against the Zacapas or Centanario's. Not as creamy, no real legs, nowhere as smooth. It was also pricey so I won't be buying another.

Smells great, but dull after taste. Makes me wanna try something else.

I'm not a fan of brugal at all but the 1888 is much smoother expression of the distinctive dry brugal flavour. If you enjoy other brugal runs at all I'm sure you'd love this.

I recommend this rum to lovers of less sweet, dry rums. But I feel too much cellar smokiness in it for my taste.

Grei og balansert, som forventet til prisen men ikke noen opplevelse ala Diplomatico,Ron Millionario etc til samme prisen

I’ve been sipping it slowly trying to find the taste I did not like. Well it’s the cork if it wasnt of that over persistance of the cork taste it would be okay but now I’m disapointed I purchased it

rhum doux, qui passe tout seul dans la gorge sans rien bruler mais qui manque de saveur, de caractère. Trop plat. Je note 6 pour le gout et 8 pour la douceur.

My first rum from Dom. Rep. today :-). >Age is a secret, with sherry cask finish.
Nose : alcoholically, oak, smoke
Palate : oak in front, dark chocolate, an initial little sweetness gives way to bitterness. Hmm, not really tasteful. Not really nice. I miss the fruit from the sherry cask finish.
Put an ice cube in the glass. Caramell an honey are coming through. A little sweeter now and bettter than neat.
Finish : medium, salty and sweet notes from caramell and honey at once.
Conclusion : I don't konw if I should like him. Price round 30 Euro is okay but the taste is a little special and the finish doesn't scream loudly for another sip.
