Pretty much the most perfect Creme de Cacao for rum drinks that you can find…because it is pretty much naturally flavored high quality rum. This works fantastically in a Mulata

Best creation ever!!! Love this chocolate rum by itself or mixed with an espresso martini!!

This is more like cacao than chocolate and I truly love that about this bottle.
The flavors are not what you'd expect - I was so pleasantly surprised and will be coming back for more.

I'm not one for flavored liquors but did SelvaRey do a fine job with this one? The cacao aroma is so subtle and delicious ..foodies will love it!

I am not huge on sweets but the dark chocolate, hazelnut and espresso bean notes I get from this Chocolate rum are fantastic! Add the SelvaRey Coconut rum with the Chocolate for an Almond Joy delight :)

Its chocolate but not too chocolate. Very good neat or with a splash of coconut water. I highly recommend this.

My review is low because this is a rum rating site. I don’t consider this a rum. It is a liqueur that is ok. I dont get the high ratings. Is it better than a low end chocolate liqueur? Yes. But it is what it is.

I have seen Selva Rey rums on store shelves for more than a year, but never paid them any attention. Then the owner of my favorite liquor store put small signs under them to designate bargains that were not moving fast enough from the shelves. He added his little comment as usual, this being that these were rums from pop superstar Bruno Mars. Whenever I see that a celebrity who knows little or nothing about distilled spirits and just wants to use his or her name to sell the products, this becomes a red flag for me. I wisely went home and researched reviews for both on this site. He is one of the owners of the company along with three brothers from West Hollywood, California. They searched for two years to find the perfect white rum that can be enjoyed on the rocks. Then they found the legendary Don Pancho in Panama. Now they had my attention! This is the Maestro Ronero who kept the Cuban masses inebriated on the cheap stuff while creating the finest rums for the ruling party. He fled Cuba for Panama in 1993 and has his own distillery there. I brought one of each bottle home today.

Don Pancho found a way to infuse dark chocolate into the white rum while keeping the added sugar content of this flavored rum at less than half of any other flavored rum on the market. I would call it a sweet flavored rum without being a sugar bomb. It tastes like no other rum and if you don't like chocolate, stay away from this one. Their website has LOTS of recipes for mixed drinks for both rums. I would rate it as a mixer, but it can be enjoyed on the rocks. Since I am not really a fan of flavored rums, I can only rate this one as a 6. However, it can be quite seductive for the ladies.

As for my own tastes, after pouring about two shots on the rocks, I decided that it needed a little something extra. I broke out my bottle of Brinley Gold Shipwreck Coconut Rum from St. Kitts. This rum is above average on the coconut flavor but not disgustingly sweet like many of the artificially flavored cheap coconut rums on the market (notice that I hate the term cloyingly sweet!!!). I wisely added only about two TBS of this coconut rum, which greatly improved the drink. This is my own tastes, but this simple test gives you an example of the degree of dark chocolate in this Selva Rey Cacao Rum.

This is simply, the best-flavoured rum I've ever tasted. It's too easy to drink, to the point of questioning whether it's legal or not. Absolutely killer taste profile, and mixed in a cocktail (of roughly any variety) or an espresso rum mix, it's downright inappropriate. This is my first review, but I keep a giant robot next to my Selvarey to protect it.
