The bourbon and sherry casks definitely come through on this as well as chocolate, fruit and nuts. While I could maybe rate this a little higher, I’m nit since it’s a little too sweet for my taste.
A nose with dark chocolate and cherry liqueur. Maybe something green in there too. Doesn't hit the tongue with heat, it's so smooth. But the tingle on the lips and the slow burn is amazing. It just lingers in such a nice way. The taste leads with more of the nose. Some very dark roasty chocolate notes and beautiful caramelized cherries. Finishes with some peppery notes and some clean dry fruit tastes. It's a touch sweeter but it's not too much in my opinion. This is an amazing rum. Really special.
To be fair this is similar to appleton 12 with a little added heat. So they are both stellar but coming from a whiskey background this is a better fit but the heat is far from oppressive. If you are looking at rum this is an awesome intro.
Stumbled across this one in my local liquor store. It was the last bottle on the shelf priced at $52.99.
Nose: burnt brown sugar, vanilla and, some dark fruits
Color: Amber
Taste:This is a sweet rum but not overly, I could easily see myself drinking half of a bottle in one sitting. It kind of reminds me of Kirk and Sweeney 23 year but better. Very little to no alcohol burn. Mouthfeel is on the heavier side which I enjoy.
Conclusion: If you prefer sweet rums this is definitely for you, even people who prefer drier rums I think would enjoy this one because it's interesting enough. For now I will rate this an 8.5 and possibly higher as I
taste it more.

Brutal 1888 Gran Reserva Failiar 6 out of 10
This Spanish style rum is first distilled using column stills.
Nose: sweet smelling with lots of vanilla, a light bit of woodiness and a touch of cinnamon.
Palate: a nice little bit of spice, lots of vanilla, some toffee, somewhat floral.
I'd say it's a nice rum. Very easy to drink and everything feels mild and rather harmonious, BUT it's a bit sweet for my preference, so I give it a six rather than an seven.
