The Duchess 2007 Jamaica Hampden C<>h 13-Year

The The Duchess Jamaica 2007 is a High Ester Rum from the Hampden distillery and was produced in 2007. The pot still rum with the mark C<>H was allowed to mature in oak barrels for 13 years and was bottled at a cask strength of 66.9% alcohol. There are 242 bottles of the single cask. All without additives, sugar or filtration, of course.

The rum needs a little time in the glass. It quickly becomes clear that it is a high ester rum. Lots of esters with overripe tropical fruit, banana, glue, some wood and a creamy sweetness make the rum an intense experience. However, the 66.9% never become aggressive. The rum is strong but balanced on the nose. He should be respected on the palate. It's very intense and powerful. Lots of ester again with glue, overripe fruit but also a slight creamy sweetness and spice. The wood influence increases as you drink. Some bitterness comes with it. The rum becomes increasingly dry and astringent towards the end. Ester notes persist for a long time. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and warms without being unpleasant or even alcoholic.

Possibly the best High Ester Hampden I've tried so far. Here the high ester content is never aggressive or pungent. The rum is wonderfully balanced and the alcohol integrated perfectly. But this one is for experienced drinkers, because if you are not prepared for it, this rum will simply overwhelm you.

Natürlich alles ohne Zusatzstoffe, Zucker oder Filtration.

Der Rum braucht ein wenig im Glas. Das es ein High Ester Rum ist wird schnell deutlich. Viel Ester mit überreifer tropischer Frucht, Banane, Klebstoff, etwas Holz und auch eine cremige Süße machen den Rum zu einer intensiven Erfahrung. Die 66,9% werden dabei aber nie aggresiv. Der Rum is kräftig aber ausgewogen in der Nase. Am Gaumen sollte der Rum respekt bekommen. Er ist sehr intensiv und kräftig. Wieder viel Ester mit Klebstoff, überreife Frucht aber auch einer leichten Süße und Würze. Der Holz Einfluss wird beim Trinken mehr. Etwas Bitterstoffe kommen mit. Der Rum wird zum Abgang immer trockener und astringend. Ester Noten bleiben lange bestehen. Der Alkohol ist perfekt eingebunden und wärmt ohne unangenehm oder gar alkoholisch zu sein.

Vielleicht der beste High Ester Hampden, den ich bisher probiert habe. Hier ist der hohe Ester Gehalt nie aggressiv oder stechend. Der Rum ist wunderbar ausbalanciert und ausgewogen und der Alkohol perfekt eingebunden. Aber absolut nur für erfahrene Trinker, den wer nicht darauf vorbereitet ist, wird von diesem Rum einfach überrannt. g
