The Liquid Treasure Session No. 11 is a rhum from Mauritius by Labourdonnais Distillery and was distilled in 2010. He was then allowed to rest for 10 years. The refill cask type is not specified, but I i am pretty sure that it was a single malt whiskey cask in which the rum was allowed to mature for at least a certain amount of time. It was then bottled at cask strength of 51.9% alcohol with no additives or sugar. There are 353 bottles of this single cask rhum.
On the nose the rhum has a good mix of freshly chopped grass, smoke, roasted fruit and a nice floral undertone. On the palate, the barrel influence is evident. The grassy notes are captured by peat and old wet wood. A nice fruity sweetness comes along. But also some pepper and spice. The rhum is oily and heavy. Towards the end it becomes spicier and the peat notes are complemented by hay and bitter substances. The rum is earthy and the peated part stays long in the mouth.
An unusual and idiosyncratic rhum. Here you really have to be in the mood for Agricole and a Peated Cask Finish. Even if this makes this rhum quite complex, it is more for a tasting in which several rhums are tasted. As a solo it's a bit too strict for me. No daily sipper.

Der Fasstyp ist nicht angegeben, ich würde aber ganz schwer auf ein Single Malt Whisky Fass tippen in dem der Rum zumindestens eine gewisse Zeit reifen durfte. Anschließend wurde er in Fassstärke von 51,9% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe oder Zucker abgefüllt. Es gibt 353 Flaschen von diesem Single Cask Rhum.
In der Nase hat der Rhum eine gute Mischung aus frischen genschittenen Gras, Rauch, gerösteter Frucht und einem schönen floralen Unterton. Am Gaumen ist der Fasseinfluss deutlich. Die grassigen Noten werden von Torf, altem nassen Holz eingefangen. Eine schöne fruchtige Süße kommt mit. aber auch etwas Pfeffer und Würze. Der Rhum ist ölig und schwer. Zum Abgang wird er würziger und zu dem torfien Noten kommt Heu und Bitterstoffe. Dabei ist der Rum erdig.
Ein ungewöhnlicher und eigenwillger Rhum. Hier muss man schon wirklich Lust auf Agricole und Peated Cask haben. Auch wenn das den Rhum durchaus komplex macht, ist der Rhum eher für ein Tasting interessant, in dem mehrere Rhums verkostet werden. Als Solo ist er mir etwas zu streng. Kein Daily Sipper.
