This Flensburg bottling comes from the Hampden distillery in Jamaica and was made in a pot still in 2007. The rum was then allowed to store continental oak barrels for 14 years. The rum carries the mark C<>H and is therefore considered a high ester rum with approx. 1200-1400 gr/hlpa. The rum was bottled at a cask strength of 66.7% alcohol in a very limited edition of 125 bottles for the German Rum Festival 2021. Naturally unsweetened and unfiltered.

The nose is super intense and almost aggressive. Lots of ester with fermented banana, lots of fruit, glue, some oak and a little vanilla spice make the rum super funky. Injust love this nose. Everything is extreme on the palate at first, as the alcohol is clearly going forward. Lots of esters again, glue, banana, pineapple, vanilla and candied flavors are present. Also some wood. The finish remains heavy on esters and brings a little more wood. The rum lingers long as expected and the Glas keeps the great flavors very long.

An intense high ester rum that keeps its promises. Despite that Ester action, it is very direct and it just shows that C<>H is one of the greatest marquise from Hampden. Super funky and a lot of fun if you like banana flavors.

I purchased this rum last year at the GRF (german rum festival) in Berlin for 75€. It is limited to 125 bottles at 50cl. There is a pretty similar "Flensburg 2007 Jamaica Jmc HD 12-Year" 252 bottles at 70cl (120€-190€) with the same year and therefore same C<>H mark. In the year 2007 Hampden was officially closed so i assume this is a "test run" product. I was curious about the high ester (mostly Hampden) hype and now felt ready to have my shot at this special product everybody is talking about. I aknowledged some reviews about this mark and my expectations were very precise and somewhat high. This rum met all of them. The GRF Hampden edition is very intense in every way and simply a flavour bomb. I drank it outside and i did not have to put my nose even close to the glas to get the overripe banana... The aftertaste was aso very long compared to my previous rums. Since this is my first high ester rum i cant tell whether there is better. But it is definately good enough for a rating of 9.
