This Long Pond was bottled by The Rum Mercenary & Kintra Spirits under the Sample X label. The 2001 Jamaican rum produced in the Vendome and John Dore Pot Still was allowed to store in Bourban barrels continental for 20 years. It was then bottled at a cask strength of 60.1% ABV with no additives, sugar or filtration as a single cask of just 127 bottles.
The rum has a very light color and is inconspicuous at first. But this impression is deceptive. The nose gets a lot of ester. Intense overripe fruit, solvent and light toasted wood aromas. The ester is not aggressive and remains accessible. The rum has a good punch on the palate. The ester comes straight and the alcohol warms pleasantly. Overripe fruit, which is slightly toasted, solvents and burnt wood make the rum full-bodied. The rum then becomes spicier and more tannins appear, which accompany the finish till the end. The rum is getting drier and astringent. Esters and tannins linger in the mouth for a very long time.
I guess this Long Pond is a high ester rum. I don't know the mark. The 20 years of storage makes it round and you get a great drinking experience. The rum is dry and quite bitter towards the end. Fans of high ester and/or old Jamaica rums are absolutely right here. A pleasure.
Dieser Long Pond wurde von The Rum Mercenary & Kintra Spirits unter dem Label Sample X abgefüllt. Der im Vendome und John Dore Pott Still hergestellte Jamaika Rum von 2001 durfte 20 Jahre kontinental in Bourban Fässern lagern. Anschließend wurde er mit einer Fassstärke von 60,1% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe, Zucker oder Filtration als Single Cask in nur 127 Flaschen abgefüllt.
Der Rum hat eine sehr helle Farbe und ist erst einmal unscheinbar. Doch dieser Eindruck täuscht. Die Nase bekommt viel Ester. Intensive überreife Frucht, Lösungsmittel sowie leichte röstige Holz Aromen. Der Ester ist dabei nicht aggressiv und bleibt zugänglich. Am Gaumen hat der Rum einen gehörigen Punch. Der Ester kommt direkt und der Alkohol wärmt angenehm. Überreife Frucht, welche leicht angeröstet ist, Lösungsmittel und gebranntes Holz machen den Rum vollmundig. Der Rum wird dann würziger und es kommen mehr Tannine, welche den Abgang lange begleiten. Der Rum wird immer trockener und astringend. Ester und Tannine bleiben sehr lange im Mund.
Dieser Long Pond ist ein High Ester Rum. Die 20 Jahre Lagerung runden ihn aber ab und machen das ganze zu einem tollen Trink Erlebnis. Der Rum ist trocken und zum Ende durchaus bitter. Fans von High Ester und/ oder alten Jamaica Rums sind hier absolut richtig. Ein Genuss.
