The S.B.S Trinidad 1993 The Beast is a column style rum from Trinidad. It was produced 1993 in the Caroni Distillery and was then allowed to rest for 26 years. The rum was bottled in cask strength of 50.7% alcohol without additives or filtration. There are 239 bottles.
When my nose came near the glass with the beast for the first time, I wasn't sure what just happend. Just wow. I did not know such intense aromas of rubber, soap and petrol, menthol, solvents and wood. But also red fruit, spice and some tar. Not a classic Caroni. That is something else. Fascinating and disturbing at the same time.
On the palate, the spectacle continues. The Rum has a fine briefly fruit. But then comes brutal rubber, lots of wood, solvents and soapy water. The rum is extremely oily and silky. A film lays on the tongue. Mint and menthol come off with a brute force. I have never experienced menthol notes so intensely in a rum. The rum is very woody with tannins and some black tea.
This rum is unique and is absolutely fascinating. At the same time, I do not find the rum particularly delicious, because especially the soapy part does not taste good to me. I also love menthol in rum like in a good T.D.L. But here it is almost too much. How can you evaluate such a thing? The price is also absolutely brutal. Too expensive for me and not what I expect from a Caroni. So i can't rate it higher even if it is of high quality... but is it? Maybe something went terrific wrong here.
Der S.B.S Trinidad 1993 The Beast ist ein Column Stil Rum aus Trinidad. Er wurde 1993 in der Caroni Distillerie hergestellt und durfte anschließend 26 ruhen. Der Rum wurde in Fassstärke von 50,7% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe oder Filtration abgefüllt. Es gibt 239 Flaschen.
Als die Nase das erste Mal an dem Glas gerochen hat, war ich mir erst nicht sicher was das ist. Einfach wow. Solche Aromen kannte ich nicht. Aromen von Gummi, Seife und Benzin. Menthol, Lösungsmittel und Holz. Aber auch rote Frucht, Würze und etwas Teer. Kein klassischer Caroni. Das ist etwas anderes. Faszinierend und verstörend zu gleich.
Am Gaumen geht das Spektakel weiter. Der Rum ist ganz kurz fein fruchtig. Doch dann kommt brutal Gummi, Viel Holz, Lösungsmittel und Seifenwasser. Der Rum ist extrem ölig und seidig. Ein Film legt sich auf die Zunge. Zum Abgang kommt Minze und Menthol mit einer brachialen Wucht. So intensiv habe ich Menthol Noten noch nicht in einem Rum erlebt. Dabei ist der Rum sehr holzig mit Tanninen und etwas Schwarztee.
Dieser Rum ist einmalig und ist absolut faszinierend. Gleichzeitig finde ich den Rum nicht besonders lecker, da besonders das seifige mir nicht schmeckt. Ich liebe auch Menthol im Rum wie z.b. in einem guten T.D.L. Hier ist es aber fast zu viel. Wie soll man sowas bewerten. The Beast ist für mich nicht besonders lecker, aber doch so faszinierend. Der Preis ist dabei auch absolut brutal. Für mich zu teuer und irgendwie dann doch nicht das was ich von einem Caroni erwarte.
