I really like a slight note of vine in this SCR.
Lower alcohol content makes it more drinkable.
What a pitty only 2 bottles per person and sold out after 2-3 days.

Most of the Foursquare rums are great and this one is no disapointment.

What can you say about foursquare that hasnt been said solid rum, smooth nose, slight burn but oh man what a sipper compex caramel jotes with wood undertones long lasting butterscotch toffee taste, yes!

Everything from Foursquare is synonym of quality and this one is not an exception.
On the nose lots of berries and the typical caramel that I always get with Foursquare.
On the palate the the caramel is there as also some dark chocolate and cherries.

This is a delightful offering. The subtle Zinfandel cask flavor really makes this rum stand out, and the 48% makes it an easy to love sipper. Buy with confidence if you see it. Drink it neat or with a drop or two of water. Do not waste it on cocktails!!!!

Foursquare Exceptional Cask Selection is particularly hard to find where I am, and sells out very quickly, so this is my third attempt at attaining a bottle. Was it worth the wait? Well, yes and no. It is definitely my favourite of the Foursquare lines, and is a very good rum in its own right, but probably not worth the hype. It is light, and the Zinfandel cask is certainly the highlight, adding a slight fruitiness to the palate, which offsets the oak nicely. I cannot find fault with this rum, however it also doesn't stand out as truly special. UPDATE after finishing the bottle: this grew on me and is now one of my favourite rums. A little more age is required to bring it to truly exceptional status however.

Nice Ron, shame those are not easy to get on the market. Good job.

I bought this as I really loved the original Zinfandel cask bottling earlier from my favourite distillery. Although this is very enjoyable its just slightly shy of the original. Still an awesome sipper though with almost the same taste profile. 8.5

The cascade of flavors from a chilled sip of this rum is incredible!

I don't think I've ever had a "bad" sip of Foursquare - but then I don't do "spiced" rums so count those out.

This is one of the few rums from Foursquare ECS that has no damn bourbon notes. Five years for one of the blends in a Zinfandel cask did the trick.

I had written off any more purchases of these rums due to most of them having excessive bourbon notes. Since I liked their Zinfandel Cask Rum from a few years back, I took a chance on this one today for $92 US. The Zinfandel notes are also well hidden, only serving the purpose to get rid of the bourbon notes and balance things out.

This one is bottled at 96 proof, which is not quite being overproof. Still in all, it has a bite on the tongue when first sipped neat. Letting it breathe smooths the bite out, but adding one small ice cube to help it breathe really smooths things out. I am not one who needs endorphin rushes, just smooth tasting rum like this one. Very well pleased with this purchase. And I know where to get more bottles! Time will tell.

Update the next day: The next sipper was OTR. There was a bitter finish that I had missed when first opened. Then I remembered how ice cubes can release hidden tannins. So my next sample was with spring water only. No more bitter finish! My next try was adding ice cubes and letting them melt until the mixture is at room temperature. Guess what? Once those evil tannins are released, one is stuck with them! This does not change my rating. I just know how to deal with it's bad side.

Update August 13, 2022: I have had this rum on my shelf for more than a month and have had no desire to go back to it for taste. I am now convinced that these rums are only good for a very expensive drunk with no penalty the next day. I now lower my initial rating from an 8 to a 7. I will no longer buy any of these overly rated and expensive rums, which were created to convert bourbon drinkers to rum. I have no need for such a conversion..
