This is a good way to find out, if you are into the much hyped Caroni rums. It does have a little of the gasoline notes, but is a lot easier to drink than some of the stronger Caroni. And it won't bust your wallet either.

The nose is a mixture of sweet, fresh tropical fruits, oak and smokey, tarlike notes. I like it alot. The palette offers a bit of heat but is sweeter then most caroni's. My tounge pick up notes of light, but distinct oak, smoke, molasse and perhaps banana. I dont find it to be heavy bodied, compared to other caronis and it could perhaps be considered as a good starter into the wonderfull world of caroni, at an affordable price.

Im Abgang gaaaanz laaaaang, also eigentlich ewig.

For the 500th rating and because it is summer 2022, it is time for a Caroni.
Copper colored amber in the glass.
Typical Caroni on the nose. You are instantly standing in an antique garage, oil dripping from an old automobile onto the already somewhat worn wooden floorboards. You slowly look around and keep discovering new things. A dented copper bowl for burning almonds, some still stick to it, lies on a cotton candy machine whose varnish has seen better times, both have been standing in the corner for ages. Dried tropical fruits filled in linen bags lie in a drawer of an old wooden dresser. Above are neatly draped some candles and and a bouquet of flowers.
Very elegant and pleasing on the palate. All these old things come to life, the old cart coughs a little and rattles peacefully. In the corner is the fairground stall of flavors, the dented bowl on the fire. The caramel is almost burning as the tropical fruits roll in from their sacks. Yellow and orange flowers dipped in wax no longer want to be just decor. The oil and diesel stained wooden floor draws attention with creaking noises.
In the finish really long, so actually eternal. The fruit in a caramel coat slowly disappears into the twilight with the old trolley. The stand is closed, the candles still give some light and you lick around for a long time at this dented bowl.
A quite decent Caroni that was affordable years ago. Very balanced, a little dirty but not too dirty, very mild and pleasant to drink, a lamb. For Caroni fans and all others also who like it wild and sugarless.
(This tasting of course without a cigar).

Being farly newer in the rum world i picked this up looking for a bit different rum. I read that the Caroni style is not for everybody and that this is a "light" version.

Well - when introducing it for friends i prepare them that it will give them a slap on the chin and then the taste rollercoaster will take them further away. Most agree on that and actually enjoy it quite a lot. I personally cant drink more than one glass at at time of this, but overall an interesting rum.

Casks: Oak
Cask strength: yes
Aging: 12y in Trinidad/Tobago and 6y in England

Not very complex caroni, but one that I like.
Pefect dilution to 55%, good choice and because of that tasty. I'm a leather junkie. This is the perfect Caroni for me. I love the dark fruit with this dirty leather notes.
Sometimes I just wanna jump into this bottle and sit there for the eternaty.

The nose is dominated by leather, it's not very fruity, this caroni has more dirty notes like all 1998 Caronis. But there is also some currant (dark fruit) in the background. I like the leather with dark fruit.
The taste represents almost the nose, no surprises there. But the aftertaste is genious, leather with peppermint. Therefore 88 points.

Nose: Gum, wild leather, currant, barrel, wood, tanins, tar
Taste: tar, wild leather, gum, dark fruit (currant)
Finish: leather, wood (tanins)
Very tasty aftertaste. Peppermint leather with a light sweetness (some currant).
Oh my gosh, the aftertaste is so tasty.

Setter er min første Caroni.
Den er god. Starter sødt og går over en kraftig fadsmag

Lighter than many of the Velier releases this one is often underrated, but the lower abv allows the rum to showcase some deep and fruity flavours alongside the more usual petrol/tarmac notes that Caroni is known for. A Caroni for everyday sipping!
