The Velier MHOBA FAQ Plastic is a rum made from sugar cane juice, which comes from the MHOBA distillery in South Africa. The rum from 2017 was allowed to be stored in red wine barrels for 4 years and was bottled at a cask strength of 64.3% alcohol without additives, sugar or filtration. There are 1445 bottles of this very popular bottling among collectors.

The nose of this rum is hard to describe. The High Ester Rum is very intense and powerful. In my opinion, it cannot be compared with anything else. Lots of overripe fruit, glue and fermented aromas are very intense. A lot of acid is reminiscent of expired yoghurt. You have to like that. The rum unfolds absolutely great on the palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The rum is sweeter than expected. Lots of fruit. Candied. Fermented again. But also red berries. Solvent and also more seasoning. Then the rum becomes smokier and some tannins are added. The rum is always present in the finish and the fermented aromas with a nice wood note remain forever.

An absolutely fascinating rum for experienced rum drinkers. Not everyone is happy here. This high ester rum has its own aromas and for those people who are a bit bored in the world of rum, there is something new to discover here. For me, the rum is difficult to rate. An absolute bombshell on the palate and close to the 10/10. But I don't like the acidity and the expired yoghurt in the nose. I don't want to stay long here. Which is why I should perhaps even spend more time with the rum. To learn. But here, too, the rum shows a weakness. The hype is so intense that it's impossible to get a bottle for a reasonable price. The original price of approx. 100 euros was absolutely fair. The current prices on the secondary market are simply ridiculous and not worth thinking about it.

Der Velier MHOBA FAQ Plastic ist ein Rum aus Zuckerrohrsaft, welcher aus Südafrika aus der MHOBA Distillerie kommt. Der Rum von 2017 durfte 4 Jahre in Rotwein Fässern lagern und wurde mit einer Fassstärke von 64,3% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe, Zucker oder Filtration abgefüllt. Es gibt 1445 Flaschen von dieser bei Sammlern sehr beliebten Abfüllung.

Die Nase von diesem Rum ist kaum zu beschreiben. Sehr intensiv und kräftig ist der High Ester Rum. Meiner Meinung nach mit nichts zu vergleichen. Viel überreife Frucht, Leim und vergorene Aromen sind sehr intensiv. Viel Säure erinnert an abgelaufenen Joghurt. Das muss man mögen. Am Gaumen entfaltet sich der Rum absolut toll. Der Alkohol ist perfekt eingebunden. Der Rum ist süßer als erwartet. Viel Frucht. Kandiert. Wieder vergoren. Aber auch rote Beeren. Lösungsmittel und auch mehr Würze. Dann wird der Rum rauchiger und etwas Tannine kommen dazu. Der Rum ist im Abgang immer präsent und die vergorenen Aromen mit einer schönen Holz Note bleiben auf Ewig bestehen.

Ein absolut faszinierender Rum für erfahrene Rum Trinker. Hier wird nicht jeder Glücklich. Dieser High Ester Rum hat ganz eigene Aromen und für die Leute, welche sich etwas langweilen in der Rumwelt, gibt es hier wieder was neues zu entdecken. Für mich ist der Rum schwer zu bewerten. Am Gaumen eine absolute Granate und Nahe der 10/10. Aber die Säure und der abgelaufende Joghurt in der Nase sagen mir nicht zu. Hier möchte ich mich nicht lange aufhalten. Weshalb ich vielleicht erst Recht noch mehr Zeit hier verbringen sollte. Aber auch hier zeigt der Rum eine Schwäche. Der Hype ist so heftig, dass es unmöglich ist eine Flasche für einen vernünftigen Preis zu bekommen. Die ca. 100Euro Neupreis waren absolut ok. Die aktuellen Preise auf dem Zweitmarkt einfach lächerlich und für mich kein Gedanken wert.

Mhoba 2017 FAQ Plastic je způsob, jak říci ne (méně zdvořilým způsobem) plastům a chemikáliím. Například třtina Nkomazi se pěstuje bez pesticidů, fungicidů a je fermentována bez umělých enzymů a následné stáčení je bez sladidel.

Aroma: Výrazná clairinovská zasmrádlost - kyselý lák od okurek, zemní plyn, petrolej, guma, lehce dezinfekce. I přes tuto brutální technickou nálož se objevuje zjemňující vanilka.
Chuť: Petrolejová, olejnatá, závan trávy či mízy. Velmi výrazná a svíravá.
Dozvuk: Exotické opálené dřevo, travnatost, lehká kořenitost a poté již velmi dlouhá hořkost.

Další velierovský, velmi zajímavý rum s až brutální porcí techničnosti ve vůni a chuti, kterou mám rád. Co však nemám rád je hořkost, která je v dozvuku taktéž brutální. Kdo má rád styl "technických smradlavců" bude určitě spokojen. Slabších 8/10.
