The Plantation MMW 1999 Arran Cask is a rum from the Clarendon Distillery in Jamaica. MM stands for Moneymusk. The rum was produced in the pot style process and was allowed to rest for about 19 years tropically. Afterwards he lay in the cognac barrel for about 1 year. The finish was done in an Arran whisky barrel. The Single Cask Rum was then bottled without dyes or filtration with a drinking strength of 46.7% alcohol.

The rum shows beautiful ester notes in the nose. These were nicely rounded off by the long storage and the fermented fruit has combined wonderfully with the wood notes. The rum is very accessible and in addition to the fruity side, also shows a beautiful spice and a subtle smoke note. On the palate, the rum is quite dry, but begins with a palatable fruity moment, which is captured by wood aromas, pepper, spice and a slightly medicinal note. At the end, the rum becomes spicier. With some leather, wood and tannins. But it never becomes astringent or too intense. The rum always retains some residual sweetness.

A very pleasant rum, which reproduces its long storage beautifully. The nose is very inviting and the ester very accessible. The rum has a beautiful combination of sweetness and spice, without becoming impressive. Something is missing somewhere. The rum could be a bit drier. Overall, you can't do much wrong here and it is great for easy sipping. The Arran finish is rather subtle, as it is usual with Plantation Single Cask Rums.
