Blend of Marques
50% LFCH -7 year
50% <> H - 3 year

Nose - lighter on the nose. pepper, black bourbon barrel char, light sweetness, toffee, crème brûlée, tangy bitter bourbon and funk at the end ( maybe cocoa bean ?) vanilla after 15 minutes or so.

Palate - burnt over ripe pineapple? Lots of minerality, then rich herbaceous notes. A lot of that bourbon barrel coming through but mix as well with light Jamaican funk.

Finish -medium length, very dry finish. cinnamon with brown sugar ethanol/Diesel. Then crème brûlée and light funk comes back at the very very end.

Thoughts -really good! Although I think I prefer the 2020 and 2022, or the LROK better. A little more dry heat than I like. Not as fruity, or funky as the others but still real good.

I love high Hugo rum but only up to a point. Over a certain amount there’s a slight brackishness that arises in the finish that I can’t get into. Before trying Great House, the Hampden 8 was my favorite Jamaican rum due to the bold hugo without crossing the line. Great House takes things even closer to the line and finds the perfect balance of complexity while maintaining the hugo I can’t get enough of.

The Hampden Great House 2021 is a blend of pot still rums, which was allowed to be stored tropically in oak barrels for an average of 7 years. The vintage rum was bottled at 55% alcohol with no coloring, sugar or filtration. The rum is limited to 2400 bottles. It's probably a blend of <>H and LFCH.

The rum shows classic Hampden notes on the nose. Ester with fermented fruit, pineapple and banana. In conjunction with the glue, the rum brings a lot of funk. But there is also some sweetness and a nice spice as well as burnt wood. For me the best Hampden nose after the 1992 HLCF, as everything is wonderfully balanced here.

On the palate, the rum is immediately funky. The ester is on point. Fermented fruit with caramelized sugar. The adhesive is not too dominant. The rum has spice and the wood influence is higher in comparison to my Veliers Hampdens. This gives the rum more depth. The rum is intense and full-bodied. A nice sweetness accompanies the finish, which is controlled by round ester and beautiful wood notes.

I have to admit that I avoided the Great House hype for a long time as it is a blend. I was absolutely positively surprised. I have tried many High Ester Hampden over the last year. My LFCH was always my safe haven at the time, because even at a young age he seemed more balanced than his big brothers. The Great House 2021 is now taking it to the extreme. A perfectly balanced Hampden that has everything I want. Ester, funk but also a well-rounded drinking feeling. I find the a little low 55% more beneficial than problematic and the right decision. For me absolutely on point and it was affordable at around 100 euros. Luckily i got a bottle. Thanks for that to the RumX community. I'm looking forward to the 2022 edition.

Ordered this online since my local store wasn’t sure when or IF they would get it. VERY glad I did. I love Hampden 46. Probably my favorite rum out there and this is it ++++.

Imagine the 46 base layer with a bouquet of funky fun flavors on top. You get oak, tropical fruit, spice, and a lingering finish that I wish would last forever with cherry, oak, all the good things. I’ve been drinking a lot of Worthy Park recently and this could not be more opposite. While the nose tells you everything with WP, Great House nose only gives you a hint and then ask you back for more.

Run to buy this! Immediately!

Bottom Line: Hogo Perfected!

Ever since my first taste of Rum Fire, I’ve been chasing that Haut Gaut Funk in every bottle of rum. I’ve chased it in Cachaca, and Agricole, and Clairin… and at times the esters have overwhelmed my palate in better ways than others. But never have they been so well restrained and highlighted for me than this bottle.

I was skeptical at first, feeling like aged runs often lose those wild notes I love, but this bottle has shown me otherwise!

The flavor is refined and yet full of the funk I’ve come to love. It’s a true sipper! Like a fine whiskey. If you LOVE Rum, and enjoy the funkiness that’s so uniquely to Jamaican Pot Still rums, with their inclusion of muck pits and dunder, you will NOT be disappointed with Hampdens most recent offering.
