Very pleasant nose. Initial sip is really tasty and alluring. Really spicy - got plenty of peppery finish to it. But the burning finish is what lets it down somewhat. It's not rough, just a little unnecessary after the pleasant taste.
A spiced rum coming from a company with the mission to protect the endangered Hawksbill Turtle. The base rum is blend of distillates from Guyana and Trinidad which was flavoured with vanilla, raisin, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and a touch of salt. Bottled at 38.8% ABV.
It tastes ok, but not my cup of tea.
There is a lot going on with this rum when drank neat. Hawksbill is one of those rums that is both sweet and spicy simultaneously, Arlu, being another one for example. The sweet DNA of this rum is sugary, almost liqueur like, with heavy notes of caramel. The spicy part to this rum is quite searing, especially in the finish. Both of which I’m not terribly keen on, but don’t mind in small doses. Hence why maybe, every time I drink this, I’m confused whether I like it a bit, or hate it a lot! With Coca-Cola Hawksbill definitely calms down a tad, which for me is very welcomed. But the flip side to using coke with this rum, is that it seems accentuate the caramel notes, God gives with one hand and takes with the other. At the end of the day, I can’t criticise Hawksbill too much, because there isn’t a great deal wrong with it, but, if you’re after a spiced rum that is also sweet, then in my opinion Arlu and Bullion Spiced Rum are two better options.

Fruity funk 9 out of 10
Really surprised how much I enjoyed this. Funky blend with fruit esters. And you save some turtles whilst enjoying a tipple!
