This is my first Hamilton bottle and it turned out to be a good one. So tasty at 59.9% ABV it is a pleasure to sip on. Wish I had bought more than 2 bottles.

So this is an interesting rum. I had never had a Port Mourant Mark from Guyana, so when this Hamilton Special Cask series showed up in the Florida Rum Society I bought it instantly.

This is an 11 year aged Demerara pot still rum from Diamond Distillers in Guyana aged in the UK and bottled at the cask strength of 60% ABV. This is from Ed Hamilton’s new special cask series which showcases rums from all the different DDL stills in Guyana. It contains no additives whatsoever.

This one is a doozy so strap in.

Right off the bat on the nose I get a strong Baileys Irish Cream liqueur note followed by a menagerie of blackberry pudding, light banana, light hickory smoke, the smell of fresh washed blueberries berries, tiramisu, black cherries, and just the lightest hint of papaya. That in itself is a rather interesting combination.

Taking a sip at first I get fine aged scotch and oak followed by blackberry soda. The palate then starts to open up like a pirate treasure chest. The reason for that reference is that there are so many different jewels in here. As the palate opens I get toasted coconut shavings, strawberries, then vanilla cream followed by pomegranate. This rum oscillates between fruit and cream notes. It’s really delightful. But it continues… Next comes southern sweet tea, caramel cream, and finally maple sugar crisp cookies. Wow! What a fantastic combination!

As the palate fades I am left with oak, blackberry soda, toffee, slight lemon, and a clear distinct note of Dr. Brown cream soda.

This is really quite a treat that just gets better and better as with water as the palate opens. I really wasn’t quite sure what to expect from a Demerara pot still rum, but man, this is a real treat. As mentioned it oscillates between fresh berry notes and creamy notes. It’s a wonderful combination. There is a very slight funk to it but it is ever so slight and difficult to describe. But when it combines with the fruit and creamy notes it presents a unique profile. This rum absolutely worth every penny.

He may not source anymore St. Lucia pot still rums, but Hamilton has gone and found the next gem mine down on the Demerara river in Guyana. This is fantastic.
