The CDI Jamaica 5 Years is a blend of three Melassr Rums, which were distilled by three different distilleries in pot style. The rum was then allowed to be stored in oak barrels for 5 years. The rum is bottled without additives and dyes with 43% alcohol.

In the nose it is already immediately noticeable that it is a Jamaica rum without it becoming aggressive or intense. A good start if you want to approach the world of Jamaica rums cautiously. On the palate, the rum is mild but pleasantly fruity. Also a mild sweetness east. Tropical fruit, banana, some oak and minimally also some ester. The finish is rather short.

The rum is not an ester bomb. I would estimate the ester content to be well below 100 gr/hlpa. For beginners a good choice. For connoisseurs rather boring or for mixing.

I feel underqualified to really speak to this rum, and maybe the flavors it has are great and just not for me. Not the smoothest I‘ve had, but pretty smooth. Fruity notes are definitely quite noticeable, which I liked. Short finish, leaves a bit to be desired there. It’s a fine rum that I don’t regret buying, but I also don’t see myself buying it again. I‘d give it a 6 on its own, but seeing that I paid ~30€ for this bottle, I feel a little underwhelmed and round down to a 5.

EDIT: After having tasted a lot more rums I'm bumping this one to a 6. For Jamaican I feel underwhelmed in the funk department, it taste a bit fruity and then makes a quick exit. Essentially its taste doesn't offend me, but I still don't think it's worth its price tag.

Good rum with a slightly fruity note.
Didn't impress me.

The nose is good with some funkiness, so it proves its Jamaican tag. On the palate you get fresh fruity taste with tropical fruits and banana, and some spiciness at the end which is not too overwhelming. Aftertaste is okay, but both taste and aftertaste are quite sweets due to around 16g/l of sugar (as per my readings). I don't regret buying it since it has that fresh fruity and a bit funky taste, but I don't see me buying it again due to so much added sugar. Price 38€.
