Sugar: Estimated at 30+ GPL. Really nice variation on the original Pilar. On the nose you can get the rye, port, and sherry influences. A complex mixture of tastes including caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, oak, and a hint of nutmeg. Very smooth with a nice long burn. It's seems sweeter than the original Pilar's, but that could be the port and sherry cask influences. It gets better if you let it breathe for a while as it's got that extra bite with 43% ABV. Really good rum, but at $69 it's a one of purchase for me as the regular Pilar is $39.
Worth getting a bottle to try.

After aging in the rye, port, and cherry casks, I was concerned that it would be too sweet or not sweet enough. It turned out to be well-balanced and blended. It's a blend of blended rums or canned and column rums from five different countries. But it all goes well with vanilla, spice, and some wonderful aromas of chocolate and coffee. The flavor and texture are great, with subtle sweetness complemented by warm spiciness and chocolate. The flavor lingers and falls steadily. I would have preferred the barrel of rye, but overall a great sip.

I took my chances on this blend with rye aging and it was worth the $100. I have never been a fan of this line of rums, but liked this one right up there with their Marquesas blend. That was months ago and I still have the empty bottle in it's leather jacket. They are still available on the shelves in my area, and I will try one again whenever I can spare the money. I do remember posting in the Discussions about this one when I first got it, so check that one out.

Dark mahogany in color with a sugar wood nose; taste of caramel, sugar and wood with a full mouth feel and a smooth mellow aftertaste; Moderate to long finish of sugar and caramel. A fine aged sipping rum suited for the non whiskey drinkers.

Outstanding packaging and souvenir bottle. The rum is robust and smokey with a well-balanced burn.

Sampled at Sloppy Joes. Wood- big wood. Caramel toffee and treacle. Rich honey aroma. Nutmeg. Black pepper and bananas.

Ok, not my favorite Pilar but so good it still gets an 8. Dry complex. Very smooth. Viscous with a great mouth feel. Strong notes of rye and a hint of maple. Sort of a double finish with smooth rye whisky the. Softer more subtle cane and vanilla. Very good stuff. If you like Rye Whisky you should not walk to your favorite store you should RUN. Get it before it is gone.

All the great things about the Pilar 24 plus a rye finish. The rye gives it a welcoming finish and light burn. Finishes long and tasty. Great out of the bottle or on ice. Use this to make cuban old fashions.

Fan of the Papas line. Not an expert reviewer but coming from bourbon I thoroughly enjoyed this. Anyone who might be in a similar situation, give this a try.

Being rye, port and cherry casked aged I was concerned it would be too sweet or not sweet enough. Turns out its well balanced and blended. It's a mutt of a rum with blends or pot and column still rums from five different countries. But it all works well together with wonderful nose of vanilla, spices and a bit of chocolate and coffee.

The taste and mouthfeel is great, with a subtle sweetness finished by a warm spiciness and a hint of chocolate. The flavor lasts and goes down smooth.

I would have liked a little more of the rye barrel come through but overall a fantastic sipper.
