Got a sample of this great Cuban rum as a gift from RhumAttitude when ordering samples for my Advent Calendar.
The fifth edition Havana Club Tributo is as all Cuban rums molasses based.
This one by Rum Master Asbel Morales is a blend of the earlier Tribute releases together with other rum reserved for special occasions, some older than 20 years.
The nose is intense and complex with recognizable aromas of dark chocolate, dried fruits, nuts, tobacco and caramel.
In mouth it’s quite thin, but when reaching the palate it’s as great as the aromas was with tastes of dark chocolate, fruits, cigar, coffee and smoke with hints of sugar and oak.
The finish is long, elegant and intense with tastes of smoke, oak, vanilla and spices.
Overall a fantastic rum, especially when taking the low ABV into account, with depth and complexity that’s intense and rich. The only thing that makes me stop my rating at this level is that it’s a little thin initially in mouth.
