A tasting in the Parter bar in Trouń with my friend began with Kill Devil Guatemala D.A.R.S.A. 2008 10yo. Keeping in mind that it is distilled by the very same distillery that produces Ron Zacapa and Botran we moved to the formal evaluation of the spirit.
The aroma of this rum is moderately sweet and fruity. One can sense grassy notes together with molasses. After initial hints of mild sourness, the creamy sweet part begins. It is composed of caramel, like in Werther's Original, milk and milky chocolate. Then, back to the main, fruity theme, the notes of wine appear, followed by strawberry and raspberry, with other indistinct red berries in the background. The two kinds of sensation create a composition of a milkshake, while grassy notes can still be sensed low over the surface of the rum.
In the mouth it begins with a mixture of sweet, fruity and peppery notes. This rum actually tastes like it smells. The attention is caught by a fruity milkshake impression, with cherries and red berries, accompanied by bitter honey, spices and hops (like the one from beer). The tastie profile keeps oscillating between sour fruits and creamy milk with caramel and Werther's Original taste. After refreshing the mouth with a sip of water, the milky mouthfeel is even more pronounced. The oak, which was hidden in the background, moves to the main stage together with a very bitter dark chocolate to conclude this rum in a long-lasting finish.
In the aftertaste the notes of orange appear for the first time, which adds up to the impression of Christmas spicings, together with the raspberry, the main topic of this rum.
Though diluted down to 46%, it is still pleasantly warming up. This rum is like a fruity milkshake, suor and creamy, reminiscent of a hard candy. A great fun mode drink.
