As I readily admit to not being a rum purist, I have no problem with rums that are flavoured, less than 37.5% VOL, or for that matter both. So when I saw Rumbutt at a gin and rum festival I was at recently, I had no hesitation in trying it out. My first impressions were so positive I immediately went online and bought myself a bottle there and then. Drank neat the alcohol burn is mellow, indicating to me that at the heart of Rumbutt lies a decent rum. The flavouring is not that strong and certainly not overpowering, but still instantly pops in your mouth leaving you in zero doubt that this rum is meant to be peanut butter flavoured. This to me is a good thing, no an absolute must! I know that sounds stupid, but it’s incredible the amount of times I’ve had a flavoured rum and it’s tasted nothing like how it’s suppose to. So I like this rum neat, but it’s even better when mixed with Coca-Cola. As a long drink Rumbutt ends up tasting more like dry roasted peanuts than peanut butter, (not a criticism, just my observation) becomes deliciously sweet without being sickle and because of the sweetness, incredibly moreish. Now that’s how a flavoured rum should be like!
