Good complex with no funk

The Compagnie des Indes Fiji from 2010 is a single blended rum of the South Pacific Distillery and consists of column and pot still, which was allowed to store in bourbon barrels for 6 years and then got its finish in Tawny Port barrels. The rum was bottled in cask strength of 61.5% alcohol without additives or filtration. There are 378 bottles of this limited edition.
The rum is not a funk monster in the nose. The rum is spicy with a dark sweetness. Port wine aromas are already coming through. But also oak, honey and vanilla. A good nose. But unfortunately with little ester content. On the palate, the rum is directly very sweet and full-bodied. It tastes of berries, vanilla, cocoa and tropical fruit. The sweetness then passes on the palate into a pleasant dryness in which more wood aromas are present. The alcohol has a certain sharpness but moves within the frame. The rum is nice and oily. The finish then becomes drier and drier and astringent.
Actually an excellent complex rum, which is probably better than I could rate it while tasting, because for me the label Fiji simply means something different. The port wine finish fits, but takes away the last bite of funk from the rum. Therefore, an 8.

Der Rum wurde in Fassstärke von 61,5% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe oder Filtration abgefüllt. Von der limitierten Abfüllung gibt es 378 Flaschen.
Der Rum ist in der Nase kein Funk Monster. Der Rum ist würzig mit einer dunklen Süße. Es kommen schon Port Wein Aromen durch. Aber auch Eiche, Honig und Vanille. Eine gute Nase. Aber leider mit wenig Ester Anteil. Am Gaumen ist der Rum direkt sehr süß und vollmundig. Er schmeckt nach Beeren, Vanille, Kakao und tropischer Frucht. Die Süße geht dann am Gaumen in eine angenehme Trockenheit über in der mehr Holzaromen präsent sind. Der Alkohol hat eine gewisse Schärfe bewegt sich aber im Rahmen. Der Rum ist schön ölig. Der Abgang wird dann immer trockener und adstringend.
Eigentlich ein exzellenter komplexer Rum, welcher wahrscheinlich höher einzustufen ist als ich es beim Verkosten konnte, da für mich das Label Fiji einfach etwas anderes bedeutet. Das Port Wein Finish passt, nimmt dem Rum aber den letzten Bissen Funk. Daher eine 8.
