After all the questionable and inauthentic rums like Tanduay and Don Papa, it's about time that Philippine rum progresses in the right direction. Luisita produces single-estate rum that's has no added sugar or coloring. Hopefully, this can inspire more authentic producers to show up in the market and change the way Philippine rum is perceived, especially among enthusiasts.

Nose: Rich and syrupy, yet not as hot or harsh as would be expected from the ABV. The wood influence is clear, pleasantly restraining the molasses aromas from being too sweet and cloying. The base notes consist of prunes, grape stalks, and cappuccino, all while being coated by toasted rubber and spice, a mix of cinnamon and cumin. Accents of rock salt.

Palate: The mouthfeel is thick and velvety. Brown sugar simple syrup, day-old sunmaid raisins, and coffee jelly drizzled with chocolate sauce. Consistent with the nose, it's great that the sweetness is not overpowering and, instead, plays well with spice and oak. A brief jab of seared steak that shifts onto cured Spanish sausages and ends with toasted raisin bread.

Finish: Long and with a wealth of tannins. Grapes and herbs.
